Fall at The Foundation
The Minot Area Community Foundation has had a busy fall! Here is a summary of what has been happening.
Roosevelt Park Zoo Grant
We are very excited to announce our largest grant to date of $500,000 to the Roosevelt Park Zoo. The grant will be applied to the zoo’s current project of building a new Amur Tiger habitat.
Becky Dewitz, Zoo Director said, “We are humbled and inspired by the generosity and support of The Minot Area Community Foundation. This grant is immediately impactful to help improve the Roosevelt Park Zoo for our community and visitors. This gift insures we will be able to break ground on this project in 2018.”
Minot Youth Robotics League
Our Mike and Dorothy Dolan Fund has granted $8,500 to Make a Scene Kid’s Theater in support of their Youth Robotics League.
The Minot Youth Robotics League will be open to children ages 9-14, with the plan to expand into younger and older children in the near future. Teams are comprised of 6-8 children who will meet weekly to design, program and compete with their robot. The league currently has 11 teams full.
Organizer, Allison Auch says that “FIRST Lego League is a phenomenal program to be able to offer the youth of Minot. It is so much more than robotics, it has a focus on a selected research project as well as core values. Critical thinking, project development and teamwork are just the tip of the iceberg in this program. To kick off the Minot league with 89 kids participating was only possible due to the Minot Area Community Foundation.”
UNITY
A collaboration between MACF and Minot State University, UNITY took place on the campus of MSU during their Homecoming week, Sept. 18th - 23rd. The public art display consists of 32 poles arranged in a circle. Participants tie yarn around each pole with which they identify. The end result is a canopy of connectivity that shows what separates us can also unite us. A total of 300 people took part in UNITY. After the project concluded, the yarn was donated to the Souris Valley Animal Shelter.
